Why Guns Are More Fun Than Many People Would Like to Admit

Before we get things going here, let’s make one thing clear: When guns fall into the wrong hands, there is nothing fun about them. A recent Pew Research Center study found that almost 50,000 people died in 2021 alone as a result of gun-related injuries. We, in no way, want to make it seem as though we’re glossing over that fact in the name of “fun.”

At the same time, guns can be fun when they’re treated with the care and respect they deserve. It’s a big part of the reason why there is at least one firearm in about 42% of American households. Outside of helping homeowners to protect themselves, guns can also inject some fun into people’s lives. Here’s how they do it.

Guns Give People a Hobby to Get Excited About

What do you like to do for fun? If you’re like many people today, you just paused, scratched your head, and tried to remember the last time you actually had fun. A recent survey revealed that about three-fourths of Americans think it’s important for people to have hobbies. Still, the same study discovered that about 20% of American adults don’t have even one hobby.

Guns can provide you with a hobby. From picking out the perfect weapon when you first decide to invest in one and learning how to use it to work at keeping a gun clean and purchasing gun accessories like an aftermarket Glock back plate, a gun can help you fill up your time with something you genuinely enjoy doing. You can add some much-needed excitement back into your life by getting more involved with guns.

Guns Allow People to Learn a New Skill

When you think about learning a new skill, what comes to mind first? Chances are, you associated picking up a new skill with work. Almost 90% of Americans say that it’s important for them to learn new skills in their professional lives to make advancements in their careers.

But when was the last time you learned a new skill just for the heck of it? Buying a firearm and figuring out how to do everything from shooting it to cleaning it will teach you so many new skills you didn’t have before. You’ll be able to experience first-hand how much fun it is to learn new skills while participating in something you enjoy.

Guns Enable People to Improve Their Health

According to the CDC, nearly one-third of Americans don’t get enough exercise regularly — and it isn’t hard to see why. Many people do not think exercising is fun, even though they know it can work wonders for their health. If you fall into this category, your health might be suffering due to a lack of exercise, but you might still struggle to find the motivation to work out.

Wouldn’t it be great if you could participate in a fun activity that will also benefit you like exercise does? Well, this is another area where owning a gun could work to your advantage. Gun owners don’t always realize this, but taking a firearm to the shooting range and spending an hour or two practicing with it could be as beneficial as going to the gym.

Some of the possible health benefits of shooting a gun include:

  • Increasing your physical strength.
  • Improving your mental well-being.
  • Building up your stamina and endurance.

You might even find that shooting a gun will improve your confidence and self-esteem. It’s a much healthier activity than people give it credit for. It’s enough to make you want to throw on your best military surplus clothing and hit the shooting range.

Guns Help People Make New Friends

The average American has three to five close friends. But unfortunately, not everyone is lucky enough to have friends like this. It can be incredibly challenging for adults to make new friends as they get older since, as we alluded to earlier, many don’t have hobbies. If friendship is something you’re chasing, buying a gun could be the key to finding a new friend group.

About one-third of American adults own guns, so you’ll cross paths with so many people when you own a gun and bring it to a shooting range. You’ll also position yourself to meet people by attending gun shows and other firearm-related events. You’ll get the opportunity to have fun at these events while also hopefully making friends you might not meet under other circumstances.
